Trish Walsh is executive vice president and chief legal officer for Voya Financial (NYSE: VOYA), which helps Americans plan, invest and protect their savings — to get ready to retire better. Serving the financial needs of approximately 13.6 million individual and institutional customers in the United States, Voya is a Fortune 500 company that had $11 billion in revenue in 2016. The company had $517 billion in total assets under management and administration as of June 30, 2017.

Ms. Walsh oversees all aspects of Voya’s Law, Compliance and External Affairs department, serving as an advisor to senior management and the board of directors on legal, compliance, securities and corporate governance matters. She also serves on Voya’s Executive Committee.

Prior to joining Voya, Ms. Walsh served as deputy general counsel and global chief compliance officer for Cigna, Inc., a global health service company with 88 million customer relationships in 30 countries and $32 billion in annual revenue. She joined Cigna in 2011 as chief counsel for the company’s U.S. businesses.

Previously, she held several leadership roles during her tenure at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance, serving as senior vice president and deputy general counsel for the company, and, most recently, as senior vice president and chief of staff to the chairman and CEO. Throughout her 10 years at MassMutual, Ms. Walsh led various diversity initiatives and chaired the law division's diversity committee. Prior to MassMutual, she was an associate at the law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Walsh began her career with clerkships at the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. She received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College, a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University and a J.D. from Yale Law School. She is a member of the board of directors of the Life Insurance Council of New York (LICONY).
